San Antonio Adult Entertainment: Experts: Child sex trafficking a very real issue in San Antonio

Sunday, December 4th, 2011

Kids as young as 12 years old are being sold to what Smith referred to as “the typical common man.”
It’s happening across the country. It’s happening in San Antonio.
“Unfortunately there is a demand for it,” said Chris Burchell of the Texas Anti-Trafficking Organization. “They’re working online, they’re working in truck stops.”
In some cases, children are even sold by their own families.
UTSA professor Robert Ambrosino spent several months with 23 of his students producing a domestic sex trafficking documentary called “Behind Closed Doors.” Those interviewed said they were sold in San Antonio when they were only children.
“The people we interviewed had been trafficked by their parents,” Ambrosino said.
Although Texas laws are getting tougher at defining prostitution and sex trafficking, Linda Smith said there are still big gaps nationwide. She said other states will hopefully follow suit and also crack down hard on domestic sex trafficking.

SAN ANTONIO -
The 12 year-old-girl at the heart of an San Antonio human trafficking case involving seven men was first reported as a runaway to the Heidi Search Center, according to Kate Shields, its executive director.
“I’m so glad there’s been arrests and possible convictions and that she’s getting help,” Shields said.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit for 61-year-old Ernesto Elizondo, the child’s alleged pimp, the girl had run away from home in 2008. Besides Elizondo, six other men in their twenties and thirties also charged with sexual assault were arrested in early November.
“Unfortunately, it sounds just about the same as every other missing female juvenile we have,” Shields said.

Michael De Leon Michael A. De Leon is a graphic designer by day, but wears many hats in his off time. In 2004, after several years of covering the Spurs, he started Project Spurs, a Spurs team fansite as an outlet to provide content to Spurs fans, while continuing to write for himself and learning the ins and outs of online publishing and web design. He has since built a writing team and started a popular weekly Spurs podcast called the Spurscast.

If I were to ask you which former NBA star would accept the head coaching spot of a basketball team made up of strippers who would come right to your mind?
If you answered Spud Webb, then you are correct or just made one incredible guess.

If I were to ask you which former NBA star would accept the head coaching spot of a basketball team made up of strippers who would come right to your mind?If you answered Spud Webb, then you are correct or just made one incredible guess.
That’s right, the former 1986 NBA Slam-Dunk champ and current President of the Texas Legends (the Dallas Mavericks’ D-League affiliate) will be leading New York City’s Rick’s Cabaret all-stripper basketball team set to kick off next month. Webb, along with his team, will be hitting the court while the NBA is technically still in a lockout to fill the void for all NBA fans.

While my arm was “twisted” and I had “no choice” when asked to cover the press conference at Rick’s Cabaret gentleman’s club and be surrounded by beautiful women, I got a chance to talk with Spud one-on-one at the press conference.
