SAN ANTONIO -
On any given night in San Antonio, prostitutes frequent certain corners around town. Many of them are drug addicts, looking to fund their next score.
But that’s where one local ministry, Victory Outreach, comes in to help.
On many a Saturday night, a group of men and women volunteer their evening to evangelize; spreading their gospel to those who they argue need it most.
They start each night with a prayer. Each member is a devout Christian, with rough, crime-filled pasts of their own.
“We just go out there and reach out to them and let them know that Jesus Christ is the answer and they don’t have to live like this,” said Oscar Navarro, a member of the group.

San Antonio Strip Clubs: The New Clipper Nation

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

Look, Clippers fans have been appropriately scarred over the years. They fully expected that stupid Kia to cripple Blake in the Slam Dunk Contest, just like they wouldn’t be shocked if the video scoreboard fell on Chris right as he was dribbling out the clock in Game 7 of the Finals. But that 27-point comeback in Game 1 was a seminal moment for a profoundly messed-up franchise. If they can erase a 27-point lead and guarantee themselves a spot on NBA TV Hardwood Classics for the rest of eternity, what else can happen? Has their historically low ceiling been removed?
These last two home games, I found myself mildly frightened by their unwavering optimism — almost like watching a buddy fall a little too hard for a stripper or something. They wore matching red T-shirts, cheered loudly from start to finish, jumped to their feet after every big play, started unprovoked “Let’s Go Clippers” chants and basically acted like college kids. Like three decades of frustration …

San Antonio Adult Entertainment: As Bakken oil booms, police prepare for change

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

BILLLINGS, Mont. — Booming oil production across a wide expanse of the Northern Plains is forcing law enforcement from the U.S. and Canada to gird for a spike in crimes ranging from drug trafficking and gun offenses to prostitution.
Officials say up to 30,000 workers could descend on the Bakken oil fields of Montana, North Dakota and Saskatchewan in the next few years.
The recent kidnapping and brutal murder of Sidney, Mont. teacher Sherry Arnold has drawn more attention to the changes brought on by the rapid pace of drilling.
In the wake of the killing, federal prosecutors are holding a two-day retreat beginning Monday for police, border agents and other law enforcement to craft a common strategy to deal with rising crime. Two men are in custody in Arnold’s case, which left local residents shaken and led to a rise in applications to carry concealed weapons.
