San Antonio Strip Clubs: The big winners in return of Cowboys training camp? Local strip clubs, of course

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

When last we visited Rick’s Cabaret in Dallas, its owner was exploiting a loophole that allowed him to feature nude entertainment in the two weeks leading up to the Super Bowl. Yes, those were the boom times, when strippers roamed the Texas plains in great herds, and there were lap dances as far as the eye could see.
But then, Texas hit the hard times. The NFL lockout meant no players in town, and even more importantly, no fans to watch them practice. It was lean times for strippers, especially in San Antonio, where the Cowboys training camp is located.
But now the lockout is over, and the semi-nudity is back! The Cowboys open training camp at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Thursday, which means the strippers shouldn’t be far behind.

San Antonio Strip Clubs: US federal court employee kidnapped, killed in Mexico

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

The officials said three people were arrested, including a stripper claiming to be his lover, and two more suspects are being sought.
Federal sources Wednesday confirmed Dieppa’s identity and said the FBI in El Paso had been called in to assist the family since he was a U.S. citizen. The FBI declined to comment, as did Dieppa’s family.
“He was a dedicated and loyal court family member,” said Fred Biery of San Antonio, chief judge of the Western District. “He leaves behind a widow and two sons.”

The Mexican news outlet Puente Libre, however, reported on its website that one of the suspects, a stripper named Lizbeth Nayeli Rodríguez Alanis, said Dieppa had been her lover for five years. Rodríguez claimed she and her accomplices decided to kidnap him after learning he taught college courses in El Paso, Puente Libre reported.

SAN ANTONIO — After a bit of a mix-up involving identities, San Antonio police believe they finally have the right person in custody in connection with a prostitution case.
They arrested Tara Ford, 39, on Saturday. However, the charge against her is not prostitution, but fraudulent use of identifying information.

San Antonio Strip Clubs: Snake Farm’s Charms Still Casting Spells

Friday, July 15th, 2011

Those carloads add up — and it’s not just families. Even after four-plus decades, the Snake Farm manages to attract 400,000 visitors of all ages annually. At $9.95 per person ($6.95 for children 2 to 12), it’s a tidy little business.
In the late 1970s, the iconic New York punk rockers The Ramones stumbled upon the Snake Farm while on tour between Austin and San Antonio. The band subsequently began to wear Snake Farm T-shirts as part of their stage and offstage personae. Snake Farm shirts, replicas of those worn by the late Dee Dee Ramone, have been available online for $49.95.
Five years ago, Ray Wylie Hubbard (the singer-songwriter who performs on the other side of New Braunfels tonight at Gruene Hall) paid homage with “Snake Farm,” a song about a guy in love with a stripper who works the counter at, yes, the Snake Farm. The engaging sing-along refrain: “Snake Farm, sure sounds nasty. Snake Farm, pretty much is. Ewwwwwww.”

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

… Absolutely tragic. Absolutely tragic,” said San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.
Police say 41-year Cecilia Tijerina’s life was snuffed-out for the contents of her wallet.
Authorities arrested 21-year old Adam Rincon and 29-year old Rickey Flowers. They have both been charged with capital murder.
A witness told police Rincon got out of his Ford pickup with a gun and demanded cash in the 1100 block of Rivas.
The witness said Tijerina told the armed men she had no cash and was shot twice from behind and then run over.
McManus said, “That shooting was nothing less than cold blood. Cold-blooded murder.”
Police reports indicate Tijerina wasn’t the first one to run into Rincon and Flowers.
Just minutes before her death, in another area frequented by prostitutes, two more women had been cornered by the men in the silver Ford pickup.

San Antonio Strip Clubs: Little-noticed killing snuffed out dream

Sunday, July 10th, 2011

It took Lorena Smith a decade working as a dancer at strip clubs to get to where she was, close to paying off her mortgage on a home in a gated community and only a couple of courses short of earning a nursing degree.
The single mother had raised two sons and only recently started going out, rewarding herself after three years of strictly studying. As she celebrated this new chapter, a gunman took her life.
“That is the ironic thing,” said her older son, Dorian Dégagé, 21. “She always wanted to search for that American dream. Wanted to show her parents she was independent, that she could succeed in this country.”

“She was a stripper because he made her do that,” said her sister, Maria Romisch, 52. Divorced, remarried and divorced again, Smith continued to dance at places like the Wild Zebra. It was a steady income for an immigrant without a college degree.
