San Antonio Adult Entertainment: St. Augustine rates on new list of top haunted cities

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

9. San Francisco’s Chinatown is home to countless ghost tours and creepy folklore. The Queen Anne Hotel, which was originally a school for girls in the 1890s, is said to be haunted by the ghost of its former headmistress, Mary Lake. If the Queen Anne Hotel isn’t enough to scare you from this city, visitors to Alcatraz often claim to see ghosts walking the cellblocks and hear voices in the cafeteria!
10. Portland, Ore., has developed a reputation as being the most haunted city of the Pacific Northwest due to the Shanghai Tunnels. These haunted tunnels were used to kidnap people in the 1800s and shuttle them to the harbor to be shipped off as slaves and prostitutes in the Far East. The White Eagle Café, a former brothel, hotel and boarding house, is also said to be haunted.

San Antonio Adult Entertainment: Castro’s tenure could be defined by SA2020

Monday, September 20th, 2010

On Saturday, he plans to launch SA2020, an urban planning project that he hopes will give San Antonio a roadmap to its future. It’ll be modeled on Target ‘90, the effort former Mayor Henry Cisneros launched 27 years ago.
Gabfests like these have become the rage, and some lessons have been learned from previous models. It used to be that people ate donuts and drank coffee in the morning, brainstormed, ate lunch, brainstormed again, wrapped it all up with speeches about how smart they all were — “Can you feel the energy in this room?” — and went home feeling great.
Now the goals tend to be more tangible. Castro even has experience doing these kinds of things well.
Earlier this year, he helped lead a three-meeting effort to spark a revitalized East Side. Not all of the results are in, and disappointments may yet emerge, but the mayor and others managed to keep the goals tangible: round up stray animals; reduce drugs and prostitution; develop specific projects.

San Antonio Adult Entertainment: Suspect charged in SE Side killing

Friday, September 17th, 2010

A man has been charged with murder in the death of a woman whose body was dumped on the Southeast Side early Thursday, police said.
Luis Alfonso Gonzalez, 38, was charged after San Antonio police were led to a bloodied apartment and found the body on a grassy shoulder of Loop 1604 near Green Road just south of Interstate 10 East.
It appeared the woman, in her 30s, was stabbed multiple times in the torso and back, said SAPD spokesman Sgt. Chris Benavides.
Benavides said Gonzalez’ estranged wife alerted police after expressing concern that he had not shown up for work. When she did find him at an apartment in the 4700 block of Stringfellow Drive, he was covered in blood, she told police.
In an arrest warrant affidavit, Gonzalez’s wife said he told her: “I messed up. I killed a prostitute.”

San Antonio Strip Clubs: MORIN v. STATE

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

If the defendant meets this initial burden, the State must be given an opportunity to show, in camera, facts relevant to whether the informer can supply the alleged testimony. Long v. State, 137 S.W.3d 726, 732 (Tex. App.-Waco 2004, pet. ref’d). The trial court should order disclosure of the informant’s identity if it finds a reasonable probability exists that the informer could give testimony necessary to a fair determination of guilt or innocence. Portillo, 117 S.W.3d at 928.
The record shows that during the course of investigating Swisher’s murder, Officer Molina received information from a confidential informant regarding a murder on the “South Side” involving a stripper. The informant indicated “some strippers set up a drug dealer and a guy killed the dealer.” The informant indicated “the suspect had hidden the gun that was used in this murder, [sic] somewhere down the street from the location of the murder.” The informant also gave Officer Molina information about where the police could locate the murder suspect.

San Antonio Strip Clubs: John Goodspeed: Docket packed for Labor Day bashes

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

That came after an epiphany that led Morrow to bring his faith more into the open on his 2008 album “Vagrants & Kings,” especially with the tune “He Carries Me.”
While “Brand New Me” is not a gospel or Christian album, he said it has a strong spiritual side.
“It just has a flavor to it,” he said. “A lot of it is love songs to my wife.
“If I was to tell you it was a song about my spirituality and faith, then you could relate it to me talking to God instead of me talking to my wife. But it’s a neat thought process to go through after you listen to it a few times.”
Morrow’s live shows, though, still include the rowdy tunes and love songs that built his career, such as “21 Days,” “Drinkin’ Alone,” “Texas Time Travelin’ ” and “Big City Stripper.”
