San Antonio Adult Entertainment: Reaction low key to "Los Suns"

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

There was a lone protester holding up a homemade sign outside the arena who was against the idea of the “Los Suns” jerseys Phoenix wore Wednesday night for Game 2 of its second-round series.
Otherwise, it was a typical game night around US Airways Center.
The Suns made headlines the day before with their decision to wear “Los Suns” jerseys on the Cinco de Mayo holiday. A new Arizona immigration law has drawn widespread criticism from Latino organizations and civil rights groups that say it could lead to racial profiling of Hispanics. President Barack Obama has called the law “misguided.”
The protester, who identified herself only as Karen from Glendale, held a sign which read The Phoenix Suns support drug runners; armed coyotes; drop houses; extradition; forced labor; forced prostitution of illegals; murder of Arizona citizens on their own property; assault on law enforcement officers.

San Antonio Adult Entertainment: A useful tool to fight prostitution problem

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

If prostitution is illegal, it should be policed and prosecuted everywhere, not just in certain areas.

Express-News columnist Scott Stroud reported that 71 of the city’s 257 arrests for prostitution this year have taken place in the area.
Police Chief William McManus and District Attorney Susan Reed, at the request of District 3 Councilwoman Jennifer Ramos, have come up with an innovative solution — asking judges to place a condition of release on those convicted of prostitution that prevents them from returning to the area where they were arrested. A similar policy should be considered for their customers.

This change won’t eliminate prostitution. But it will make it harder for prostitutes and their customers to create de facto red light districts — to the detriment of people who live and work in them.

Keep hookers in S.A.
As a 21-year former Schertz city councilman, I take personal exception to Scott Stroud’s May 21 column, “City considers new way to deter prostitution.”
Schertz is proud home to many active-duty and retired military. We’d prefer San Antonio not export any more of its problems to Schertz, as Stroud suggested. As he reported, you evidently have “a longstanding problem” along Roosevelt Avenue and South Presa of “ladies” engaging in prostitution.
We have no such area here and hope we never will. If San Antonio would enforce state law, the problem might go away.
Kenneth Greenwald,

A better idea to try
I’m not an engineer, but plugging the BP well off the Louisiana coast with shredded tennis balls seems unlikely to work.

San Antonio Escorts: City considers new way to deter prostitution

Friday, May 21st, 2010

A proposal by City Councilwoman Jennifer Ramos to create prostitution-free corridors in San Antonio seemed silly at first blush.

After hearing about efforts in other cities to target certain areas as prostitution-free corridors, Ramos asked if something similar could be done here.

The civil injunctions law enforcement officers use to combat gang activity wouldn’t work for legal reasons, he said. The law targets organized criminal activity involving three or more people. Generally speaking, he said, “prostitutes work alone.”
But McManus suggested a more viable alternative: asking judges to order those convicted of prostitution and related crimes to steer clear of the area where they’d been arrested as a “condition of release.” Over time, McManus said, that could have an impact on areas such as the Roosevelt and South Presa corridors, where 71 of the city’s 257 prostitution arrests this year have taken place.

San Antonio Escorts: Personal questions far from being off limits at NBA pre-draft camp

Personal questions far from being off limits at NBA pre-draft camp
May 20, 2010, 10:30PM
CHICAGO — It is doubtful anyone asked Kansas guard Xavier Henry a question similar to the one Dez Bryant fielded at the NFL combine.
In fact, Henry said the controversy involving Bryant, who was asked whether his mother was a prostitute during an interview with a Miami Dolphins official, was news to him.
“I haven’t heard that,” Henry said. “That’s bad. I take it he didn’t like that.”
That is safe to say.
But asking questions about players’ families is as common at the NBA pre-draft camp as it is at the NFL combine. About 50 players are attending the camp. They are working out and going through interviews with team officials interested in drafting them.

San Antonio Adult Entertainment: Policing program showing results

Monday, May 10th, 2010

A coordinated effort by several city departments is making some of these formally troubled areas more inviting for investors.
As part of the Problem Oriented Policing program, officials from the city’s code compliance, Animal Care Services, public works, solid waste and police departments meet weekly to discuss the problems and develop strategies to tackle the problems.
Together, as members of the Quality of Life Task Force, they are taking back the streets from the bad guys, and statistics prove it.
In recent months, arrests have increased 26 percent and violent crime has dropped 18 percent, the Express-News reports. Property crimes are also down by 13 percent.
More than 230 properties have been secured and cleaned, and 630 dogs have been impounded. Arrests for prostitution and drug charges are also substantially higher.

Paradoxes of life
There are many things in life I’ve failed to understand. Since I have had considerable life, you would think this should not be, but, alas, it is. Here are a few:
We spend millions going to China and elsewhere to induce people and companies to come to San Antonio, and then tell our citizens we don’t have enough water and must charge more. The same will soon apply to electricity.
Being Democrat or Republican is more important than being a representative of the people.
We kick God out of our schools, our courts and our homes, yet stand and sing lustily, “God Bless America.”
A woman’s body is her own, so abortion is OK, but she can’t use it for prostitution.

San Antonio Adult Entertainment: Make me stop

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Big players step up in big games. It’s a simple fact, unless they are way past their prime n like Shaquille O’Neal past prime n they will step up in big games. It went that way with both the Mavs and Spurs but the Mavs only had Dirk step up.
Nobody else was even close. Does someone want to tell me where Jason Kidd ran off to?
The San Antonio beat up on Dallas defensively and they out played them overall offensively. If Dirk hadn’t had to go basically solo last night, game 7 in Dallas would have been a lock for the Mavs. The questionThere is a large controversy in the NFL right now where the general manager for the Miami Dolphins, Jeff Ireland, asked an improper question to Dez Byrant. The question he asked is if Bryant’s mother was a prostitute.

San Antonio Adult Entertainment: East Side land mine

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Richardson was friends with the late artist Reverend Seymour Perkins, whose Eastside house and studio the City razed last December after a two-year legal battle. Officials accused Perkins, who died in February 2009 at the age of 79, of harboring drug dealers and prostitutes; Perkins maintained that he offered a safe haven for women, who, along with the neighborhoods deep and complicated history, provided inspiration for his work. Removing prostitution is a superficial issue, Richardson said. I told them, if you run them away from this location, they will be like shotgun pellets throughout the neighborhood.

But along with the absentee landlords and unrepentant criminals, a significant number of impoverished homeowners get caught up in the DSDBs impassive machinery, most troublingly through the multi-agency Dangerous Assessment Response Team, which has institutionalized the use of police records to target structures with a record of heavy police calls or incidents. The DSDB can lower the boom on a structure for a variety of reasons, from foundation trouble …

San Antonio Adult Entertainment: High Society’s Devorah Rose Exclusive Interview

Monday, May 10th, 2010

So, the quote got me started. Finding the show to be a train-wreck is not a level of awareness you expect from people who are actually on the show. And, she also said, “It’s an extremely entertaining show to watch because everyone in it is so crazy!” My sentiments exactly, to tell the truth, but not what you often hear from the cast.
Then I found out she had a job. More to the point, I could find some answer to the question, “Yes, but who is she?”
Adding to my interest was the farcical portrayal of this “villain” on the show. I mean, it seems we’re supposed to get behind disliking her, but I’m not sure I can ferret out why. There’s no gossip about a sex tape being spread around. She didn’t claim to catch her working in a brothel, or wearing white before Armistice Day (or whatever the hell). She’s barely on the show long enough to say anything, and what seems to have started the drama is that she said -
